A Web site is much more than a product or services brochure; it is your storefront, your business card, your sales staff, and your customer support desk. Your potential clients will decide within a few seconds whether to stay or leave your site so your site must engage them immediately and draw them further in. Visual and functional design should pursuade the viewer to perform an action, such as reading information or purchasing a product. To be effective at this task, a site's design is built on the preferences of the intended audience as well as the needs and goals of the organization.

AcademyUniforms.com, built using PHP and a MySQL database, has the goal of being the primary uniforms supplier to schools within the USA. Their on-line store presents inventory according to customers' profiles regarding their children and their children's schools. Clarisys Inc. 
Clarisys, an accounting software development group, had built and marketed their bilingual business site in-house like many businesses currently online. Rebuilding the sixty page site became necessary as it had outgrown its original simple menu structure. To make it easier to quickly locate information and products, a uniform layout and sidebar menu were developed for the English and French versions of site. The site generates more consumer and professional interest in the company's products and services and we have continued to develop and enhance the site as the business prospers. Royal Victoria Realty Century 21  This site was developed so that this successful real estate firm could maintain it through Microsoft's Frontpage. Inksite.com  The original site was created by the owner, using a Frontpage template. A new interactive design was developed, which created a more professional and efficient experience for the customers. Soon after, the online store was converted to a custom PHP/MySQL solution that makes it easier for customers to find the products that they need. The site was created for a cabinet manufacturer who wanted to promote the design services on-line. A steady flow of traffic is brought to the site through top ranking positions in five major search engines and in several directory services and the offering of free design samplers creates an opportunity to build traffic and business through first time and return visits. The e-commerce solution is a simple shopping cart that results in e-mail and fax notification of sales. The challenge in developing this site was in considering the wide variety of computer platforms and software that this company's customers might be using and ensuring that the electronic-based products/services could be delivered in a usable format. Winner of the Snap! Best of the Web award, Co-Cure (shown below) represents a successful non-profit and educational consumer-driven project. In a HEALTHwise article, June 1997, Andrew Fogarosy writes, "In the fall of 1996, Donna established the Co-Cure web site... as a means of publicizing the [Co-Cure] listservice. From these humble beginnings has grown one of the best ME/CFS/FM resources on the entire World Wide Web... The size and scope of this website would be daunting, were it not for the simplicity and logic of its layout. There are straightforward menus that make it easy to find whatever you seek, be it specific information or an area of interest. In keeping with Co-Cure's philosophy of openness to all, the website is navigable by the older text-only browsers, as well as the latest high-tech releases." Co-Cure is currently maintained by the project's management team and can be viewed online. |
